When she began her career as an actor, she went on to become a model for children. She was awarded the Theatre World Award in 1956-57 for her role in The Potting Shed. Lynley began her film career in the year 1958 by appearing in The Light in the Forest, a Disney film The Light in the Forest The Light in the Forest, which was followed by Holiday for Lovers (1959) and Blue Denim (1959). In 1959 she was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Most Promising Newcomer - Female in the movie The Light in the Forest. A year later, she was again nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Most Promising Newcomer - Female in the movie Blue Denim.
