Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian was born in Canada but grew up in the U.S. She has worked as media critic since. She is the founder of Feminist Frequency which is a website which features video and posts discussing the depictions of females in pop culture. Anita Sarkeesian has been a journalist, media critic and award-winning feminist for over a decade. She is the founder and executive director of Feminist Frequency an educational non-profit website which explores representations of women in pop stories of culture. She is committed to deconstructing stereotypes of women as they are portrayed in popular culture. Additionally she aims to create awareness about online harassment targeted at women and the marginalized communities of people. Sarkeesian holds a York University master's in social philosophy, political and philosophical thinking. Alongside being a well-known public speaker, she's given speeches at the TEDxWomen XOXO The XOXO Conference as well as the United Nations Broadband Working Group. Inquiring about gender identities and feminisms from an early age she launched her website Feminist Frequency in the year 2009 when she was still a student at the university. The determined lady had planned to launch a web series on the gender roles in video games and was the subject of a harassment online campaign. However, the attacks did not discourage her. The experience only strengthened her as a feminist journalist. Her notable contributions to the feminist field are recognized with numerous prizes. Anita Sarkeesian has been a media critic for several years and is the founder of Feminist Frequency. This non-profit educational organization studies women's roles in pop culture narratives.
